“Status Update: The Social Media Top 5 of 2009”
Step back in time, folks! The neon-drenched year of 2009 was a standout one in the realm of all things social media đ. Heck, it was the year many of us tweeted our first tweet, posted our first Facebook status, and heck, maybe even âDuggâ our first article!
1. âTweet, Tweet â Twitter Takes Offâ
Twitter, like a baby bird figuring out its wings, really started to pick up altitude in 2009. We were suddenly 140 characters deep into breaking news, celeb gossip, and a constant string of thought-bubbles. One tweet at a time, Twitter became the way we stayed connected, informed and totally glued to our screens. đŠ
2. âFacebook â Finding Friends and Facesâ
Câmon, do you even remember what life was like before Facebook? In 2009, FB made it spectacularly easy for us to stalk our high school crushes and share cat memes (so many cat memes). remember when âpokingâ someone didnât sound weird? Yeah, me neither! The âlikeâ button was our ticket to popularity, and boy did we go to town with that power. đ
3. âYouTube â Our Viral Video Valhallaâ
YouTube wasnât just the dopey home movies and cat videos we fell in love with. Nay, 2009 saw a boom in How-To videos, song covers (yeah, Justin Bieber, we see you), and, donât forget about the quirky viral sensations that kept us LOLing all year long (I repeat: âCharlie bit my fingerâ). đș
4. âLinkedIn â Keeping It Professionalâ
2009 wasnât all just fun and games; some of us tried to, yâknow, get jobs. LinkedIn became our professional haven, a blend of networking tool and online resume thatâs about as close to a digital handshake as you can get. Never before had we seen such a rad mix of casual networking and blatant self-promotion. đŒ
5. âDigging It With Diggâ
Last, but certainly not least, was our dear old friend Digg. User-driven and devilishly easy to use, Digg gave us control over the content we wanted to see, one upvote at a time. Who needs reputable news sources when youâve got a horde of users scouring the net for the best content, am I right?! đ
So, there you have it â 2009, the year the Internet morphed into our digital meet-up spot, newsroom, entertainment hub, and office all at once. It shaped the way we interacted, shared, laughed and #humblebragged. Sure, it may have invaded practically every aspect of our daily lives, but hey, whoâs complaining? đ
