2015’s Musical Trainwrecks You Won’t Believe Existed
remember 2015? It was the year of hoverboards, Minions, and some unforgettable hits. But let’s be honest, not all music that year was Grammy-worthy. In fact, some tracks were downright cringe-worthy. Here’s a list of tunes that might make you wonder what on earth we were thinking!
1. “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)” by Silentó
This song might have had dancers and kids everywhere doing the whip and nae nae, but musically, it left a lot to be desired. firstly, the repetitive lyrics and simplistic beat could become annoying rather quickly. Despite its viral fame, it didn’t offer much in terms of musical depth or creativity.
2. “Pretty Girls” by Britney Spears & Iggy Azalea
Britney and Iggy pairing up seemed like it would be a hit, but “Pretty Girls” fell flat. also, the song’s lyrics were superficial, and the tune was forgettable. It received plenty of criticism for its lack of originality and over-the-top production, making it one of the least impressive tracks of the year.
3. “Focus” by Ariana Grande
Similarly, “Focus” had high expectations but didn’t quite hit the mark. Featuring a jazzy brass section that felt out of place, this track struggled with repetitive choruses and a lack of memorable moments. Consequently, many felt it was a watered-down version of her previous hit, “Problem.”
4. “Anaconda” by Nicki Minaj
In contrast to her usual creativity, Nicki Minaj’s “Anaconda” was a disappointment. This song relied heavily on sampling Sir Mix-a-Lot’s “Baby Got Back” and offered little in terms of innovation. Additionally, the lyrics were criticized for being overtly sexual and lacking substance.
5. “Dear Future Husband” by Meghan Trainor
Finally, Meghan Trainor’s “Dear Future Husband” stirred up quite a bit of controversy. While catchy, the lyrics seemed outdated and borderline sexist to many listeners. Consequently, the song was seen as a step backward in terms of progressive messages in pop music. Above all, it just didn’t connect with a wide audience in the way her previous hits did.
Wrapping up, 2015 was a mixed bag musically. Some songs hit all the right notes, while others were just plain misses. It’s fascinating to reflect on the year’s musical missteps, but let’s be grateful for the good songs that balanced these out.
